It started with a jewelry class and a spark that never went out.

About twenty-five years ago, a friend invited me to try my hand at making jewelry — and what began as a casual afternoon turned into a lifelong passion. For years, I crafted one-of-a-kind pieces and dreamed of sharing them with the world, but the timing wasn’t quite right. The internet was still finding its footing, and the resources just weren’t there.

So the pieces were tucked away — carefully kept, never forgotten.

Recently, I rediscovered those early creations and felt the passion come rushing back. With new tools, new possibilities, and a whole world of people to reach beyond farmers markets and local festivals, Jewelry by MJ was born — this time, for real.

Every piece begins with a hunt. Thrift stores, estate sales, anywhere someone has given their jewelry memories away — I search for forgotten pieces with stories still left to tell. Living in Seattle, in the house I grew up in, those pieces are taken apart, reimagined, and handcrafted into something entirely new and completely one-of-a-kind.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief: the world is more beautiful when the people in it feel beautiful. Every piece I create is a small expression of that — a little extra color, texture, and intention for whoever finds it.
